Planning your shot.

As photographers, we all go out with a certain image in mind.

With this type of image in mind, I went out on a mission. There had been a few opportunities and I hadn't got anything of substance. It was a perfect evening and with a bunch of very eager photographers with me, we set out, planning to view lions at night.

We were one of the last vehicles to get to the sighting and had some time to spare. The lions as per usual had been sleeping all day and it had now become a waiting game. One of the lions broke out into a full roar and as expected the rest did too. One of them actually lifted his head to do this.

With a perfectly placed spot light from the other vehicle in the sighting I managed to capture this image, which for me shows the power and prowess of the male lion.

Thinking out the box!!!!

It was a gorgeous afternoon and we were following a pack of 9 wild dogs. Wild dogs being wild dogs, they were on the move and as we know when following these AWESOME animals, something is bound to happen.

The light was failing and we were just about to leave the pack to carry on with their day when they took off and chased a female leopard up a tree. She wasn't going to take her chances with the pack and watched them from the V in a Marula tree. 

It was dark by now and the dogs had moved off. Luckily we were able to now view the leopard in the tree. 

We started clicking away. The point of my post is that there was a few photographers in the sighting and there were 4 totally different images that came from the sighting.

Installing Firmware Version 2.0.X makes the EOS 7D compatible with the Canon GPS Receiver GP-E2†. The GPS Receiver GP-E2 records location†† information such as longitude, latitude, elevation, and direction as EXIF data. It has a rugged, compact design, connects to the EOS 7D via USB and uses readily available AA batteries. † When the EOS 7D is used with the GP-E2 the following restrictions will apply: a) geotagging function will not work for movies while recording; b) geotagging features will not work for movies when using the Map Utility; c) electronic compass information and automatic time setting is not available; d) transmission via the hot shoe is not possible. †† In certain countries and regions, the use of GPS may be restricted. For the ultimate in custom audio, this firmware upgrade enables manual control of sound recording levels. The recording level can be manually adjusted to one of 64 levels, for precise, optimized audio. And to prevent mistakes in sound recording, an icon indicating manual sound recording is displayed on the info screen during video shooting. All images and effects simulated.

Firmware Version 2.0.X also delivers customization over ISO Auto settings. When using M, P, TV, AV and B modes, users now have a choice of setting the maximum allowable ISO, up to ISO 6400. With more flexibility to shoot in diverse lighting situations, the EOS 7D will always optimize ISO settings to ensure the best possible exposure is recorded.
